Running on empty part II

On the back of my Running on empty post (read here) I thought I’d list some ways I try chill out, recharge the ol’ batteries and ultimately curb the fatigue.

1) Workout- As ironic as it might sound to crack on with a workout when you’re already feeling tired and lethargic, but exercise has been proven to boost your mood and give you energy. I enjoy going to my fitness classes (shout-out to Livfit Ayrshire, you da best) and find that when I least wanna work out, it’s those times where I need it most. Even a 20 minute YouTube workout in your bedroom can majorly improve your mood- and there’s a whole bunch to choose from whatever your preferred form of exercise, be it cardio, HIIT, yoga, abs, bum, boxercise etc.

2) Natural sweetness- When I’m feeling lethargic I always venture towards feeding those sugar cravings and reach for fizzy juice and sugary snacks. But that usually has a counter effect on me as it becomes like a sugar overload that my body struggles to process. Making a homemade smoothie, eating a piece of fruit or even adding a dash of honey to a cup of green tea is not only better for you (hashtag health) but it’ll still give you that pick me up your lil ol’ body requires.

3) Do not disturb- I’m a bit of an introverted extrovert where I’m super chatty and outgoing but sometimes my social life has to take a hit in order for my body to recharge those batteries. Sometimes you just need some you time; cosy up with a cuppa and magazine, patch social media for a while, or read a book and clear your head. A break from socialising can be good for the soul and you’ll be good to go in no time.

4) Treat yo’ self- This kinda ties in with and follows on from point 3 but addresses the physical body more than the soul. One of my favourite things to do when I’m feeling wiped out is have a pamper night. You’ll be amazed at the wonders a lil eyemask and pore strip can do not only for your face but also relieving tension all round. (see here - honestly the most relaxing eye masks ever)

Cucumber-y goodness for the eyes

I also love popping on a hair mask, face mask (see here - peel off, smells absolutely delicious and only a quid?! Winner) and covering myself in body butter to help keep the dry skin away. (see here - Of course it's gotta be Sleepy from Lush- smells of lavender and perfect for helping a sleepy gal doze off) Pop on your fave pyjamas and fluffy socks, light a candle and get cosy- guaranteed to wake up refreshed.

5) P&P- Don’t worry I’m not talking about paying £4.95 postage and packaging on that already rather expensive cute top that you just MUST have (free delivery is the way, am I right?) but I’m talking about podcasts and playlists. Podcasts are defo making a huge comeback and I for one am totally on board. I love walking to work or taking the dog out while listening to something funny, an inspirational tale or debunking a crime mystery. I think it helps listening to other people’s stories. You’ll either laugh at their embarrassing mishap, marvel at their strength and courage or educate yourself on a new subject and learn something along the way. As for playlists, well you just can’t beat listening to some gid tunes, can you?!

And finally..

6) Listen to your body- Having done all else- sleep. Sometimes there’s nothing else for it but an early nights kip!

Speak soon,

Wee Eb
